Introduction - A Brief Look At Our Gites

La Petite Guyonnière dates back to the mid 19th century and was originally a large farm.  It has been a holiday destination for 18 years.  It is divided into two gîtes, a traditional Vendéen farmhouse “Le Marronnier” and an attached cottage “La Petite Bouleau”.  They can accommodate 12 and 4 people respectively.

When reserved together, the two gîtes can accommodate up to 16 people, a great option for large families or groups.  We also offer the ground floor of Le Marronnier during the “low season”, May, Jun and Sep, which can sleep up to 8 people.

Our large and attractive swimming pool is open from May to Oct.  It is fenced and alarmed for security and safety and is heated.

Le Marronnier is a lovely example of a traditional Vendée style farmhouse. It sleeps up to 12 people in large tastefully furnished rooms.  It is equipped to ensure that your stay is as comfortable as possible.  A home away from home.

La Petite Bouleau is a charming cottage that comfortably sleeps up to 4 people.  Like the adjoining farmhouse it is spacious and well equipped. It has it’s own designated outside space to the rear, which leads out into the gardens.

Tourist Information

The Vendée is of similar size to Devon, at 2,590 sq/miles. However, with less than half the population there is plenty of space, quiet roads and friendly people, great food and don’t forget the red wine. The road network is extensive, therefore a pleasure to drive, it is well signed and maintained.  Coastal towns and villages can be busy during the summer months, but most other areas are quiet and consequently a real joy to explore by car, cycle or on foot.

Most towns and larger villages have an Office de Tourism (Tourist Office) with helpful staff, many of whom speak English.

Travelling To La Petite Guyonnière

Your gîe holiday accommodation in the Vendée is just a few hours drive from the main channel ports, therefore, you could be starting your holiday the same day.  If long car journeys are not to your liking then the Airport at Nantes is only one hour away.  Ease of access makes La Petite Guyonnière an ideal base from which to discover this friendly and diverse area of France.

Exploring The Local Area

Exploring the area is a pleasure due to the extensive and well-maintained road network. Outside of major towns, the traffic density is low, so you spend less time sitting in traffic and more time exploring.  Everything is within easy reach, historical sites, lively coastal resorts or picturesque towns and villages.  The  Vendée boasts over 160 km of wide sandy beaches.  Close by there is the calm of St Gilles-Croix-de-Vie (28km), or if you prefer hustle and bustle, then there is St Jean-de-Monts (33km).  The countryside is diverse, from open fields to woodland, marshland to sand dunes, the Vendée is perfect for ramblers and nature lovers.  The great variety of birds will be appreciated by ornitholigists in particular.

If cycling is your passion, then the Vendée is the place to come.  For serious “road cycling” the options are infinite. Country roads are quiet, well maintained and other vehicles will give you plenty of space when passing.  For “pleasure cycling” there are over 1,800km of dedicated cycling tracks and trails.  The “Vendée Tourism” website has all the information that you could possibly need to ensure a great cycling experience.

Serious Training

This area is ideal for serious training regimes, particularly “Triathlon”. The terrain is varied, open water is close-by, the largest lake in the Vendée (167 hectares) is only 2.5km away.  The road network is extensive, French drivers are “cycle friendly” and there are plenty of off-road tracks.
